Iwo Jima Remembrance

Hartland Hills retirement community on Tanbark Rd. in Lexington will hold a remembrance of the Battle of Iwo Jima on Fri. Feb. 3 at 12:30 p.m.  There will be a special lunch followed by a remembrance video and veteran recognition ceremony.  Space is limited.  RSVP:  859-273-1212. 

Pastures Please!

This workshop for horse owners and farm managers  will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Clark County Extension Office in Winchester.  Attendees will get practical advice on pasture weed control and reducing parasite loads.  Free.  RSVP through local county extention office. 

Doors

This art exhibit consists of reused doors.  Using fabric, acrylic paint and decorative items, artist Minerva Evans has turned the doors into images of African women.  This free exhibit will be at the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center from Feb. 1 through April 6.  There will be an opening reception Wed. Feb. 1 at 6-8 p.m.

MLK Tribute at KSU

Kentucky State University presents a music tribute in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Black History Month at 11 a.m. Tues. Jan. 31 in the Carl M. Hill Student Center Ballroom at KSU.  The tribute will feature KSU's Concert Choir and Opera Music Theater Workshop.

Alzheimer's Family Caregiver Training

This program will include presentations on Alzheimer's disease, caregiving basics, legal decisions and more.  It will be Fri. Feb. 24 from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fayette County Extension Office.  Registration is required:  $10, includes lunch.  Register:  infoky-in@alz.org

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

The 10th annual Bluegrass Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Conference will be Thurs. Mar. 15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel, formerly the Holiday Inn North, in Lexington.  The conference is for grandparents, relatives and professionals will include workshops on legal, financial, mental health and parenting topics.  Registration:  $5 for grandparents/relatives; $50 for professionals.  Information:  859-257-5582.

Best Friends Training

Best Friends Training for Families of Persons with Dementia will be offered Mon. Mar. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lexington Public Library, Tates Creek Branch.  The workshop will teach how to relate to a person with dementia in order to improve communitycation and enhance quality of life.  Lunch will be provided; registration is required.  Register/Info:  1-800-272-3900.

Presidents' Day at the Mary Todd Lincoln House

The Mary Todd Lincoln House will celebrate Presidents' Day with a special program for children and their families on Feb. 20.  From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. visitors will be able to see the house, play historical games, see a crafts demonstartion and enjoy other activities  Free to all students K-12, though its' designed for children ages 5-12.  Children under 13 must be accompanied by a  paying adult.  Info:  859-233-9999.

Divorce Recovery Workshop

Immanuel Baptist Church offers a Divorce Recovery Workshop every Monday from Feb. 20 through Apr 2, from 7 to 9 each evening.  The seven week workshop will cover topics like forgiveness, letting go, coping skills and more.  Suggested donation for first-time adult participants is $75 if pre-registered by Feb. 13.  Children's programs are also offered.  Info/Registration:  Casey Evans, 859-685-3337.

A Fashion Night Out
